Editorial Images

NEW: Special recognition category!

Some images go beyond a traditional pageant headshot - they tell a story. They may be styled like a magazine spread, created for a modeling portfolio, or captured with elaborate sets, props, or creative direction.

These images are sometimes tough to judge along traditional headshots. That’s why, for our Fall 2025 season, we’ve created a special recognition category for Editorial Images.

Entries tagged a "Editorial" will be eligible for recognition in their own category, giving us an opportunity to highlight images that are expressive, elevated, and editorial.

Editorial entries will continue to be judged alongside all images in the main Photo Contest. This special recognition is designed to highlight magazine-style, fashion-forward photography, giving these creative images the visibility they deserve so they aren’t overshadowed by traditional pageant headshots.

Guidelines for Success: Editorial Images

While the Editorial special recognition category celebrates creativity and artistry, the guidance here will help you select your best entry.

Professional Quality
- Photos should look polished and publication-ready.
- Use of sets, props, or fashion-inspired concepts is encouraged.
Creative Styling
- Outfits, makeup, and hair may be bold, fashion-forward, or high-glamour.
- Accessories and props should enhance the image rather than distract.
Magazine-Style Approach
- Think in terms of a modeling portfolio or editorial spread.
- Images may be full-body, ¾ length, or headshots.
- Color and black-and-white entries are both accepted.
Authenticity Matters
- AI-generated photos are not allowed.
- Retouching is acceptable, but photos should remain true to the entrant’s likeness.

Special Category Recognitions and Prizes: Editorial Images

For our Fall 2025 season, we will recognize the Top 5 Editorial Images in each age group in addition to our overall Photo Contest Winners.

1st Place Winner
- Golden Ticket to NAM Nationals 2025
- Free Top Model Entry at NAM Nationals 2025 ($175 Value) -OR- Free Print Model Entry at IJM Internationals '25-'26 ($150 Value)
- Free Photogenic Entry at NAM Nationals ($175 Value) -OR- Free Photogenic Entry at IJM Internationals '25-'26 ($150 Value)
- Winner must complete the NAM Nationals 2025 entry form by October 15, 2025 (if not already registered) or IJM International '25-'26 entry form by November 1, 2025 (if not already registered). Entry is non-transferable and cannot be applied to future IJM International, NAM National, or NAM State events.
